Choosing the right class is the most important decision you'll make before race day. Here's how to get it right.

One of the most common questions we hear from families new to motocross racing is simple:

Which class do I belong in?

It sounds straightforward. But get it wrong and race day can be frustrating, discouraging, or just plain unfair. For your rider and everyone else on the track.

Get it right and race day becomes exactly what it should be. Competitive. Exciting. Fair. The kind of day your rider talks about for weeks.

Here's everything you need to know.

THE GOLDEN RULE.

Before we break down the classes there's one rule above everything else:

Race your class. Not someone else's.

At 543 MX we take class integrity seriously. Every win here is earned. That means riders compete in the class that matches their age, skill level, and equipment. No exceptions. No politics.

If you're not sure which class your rider belongs in, ask us. We'll tell you honestly. Because a fair race is better for everyone.

THE 543 MX CLASS BREAKDOWN.

50CC OPEN — Ages 4-8 The very beginning. These are the youngest competitors on the track and every single one of them is already braver than most adults. 50cc Open is for riders on automatic or semi-automatic 50cc bikes.

First race? This is your class.

50CC SHAFT — Ages 4-8 Same age range as 50cc Open but specifically for shaft-drive bikes. If your young rider is on a shaft-drive machine this is where they belong.

65CC OPEN — Ages 7-11 The step up. 65cc riders are developing real technique and real speed. This class is competitive, exciting, and a true test of skill for young riders ready to push themselves.

65CC BEGINNER — Ages 7-11 New to the 65cc bike? Start here. The beginner class gives developing riders a fair environment to build confidence without being thrown into the deep end.

Rule of thumb: if your rider has never competed before, always start in a beginner class.

85CC OPEN — Ages 9-13 The 85cc class is where things start getting serious. These riders are pushing the limits of their machines and themselves. Fast, technical, and exciting to watch.

85CC BEGINNER — Ages 9-13 New to the 85cc? Same principle as 65cc Beginner. Build your confidence here first.

SUPERMINI — Ages 11-15 The Supermini class is one of the most exciting on the track. These bikes are fast, the riders are aggressive, and the racing is intense. If you want to see the future of the sport, watch this class.

SCHOOLBOY — Ages 14-18 High school age riders competing at a serious level. The Schoolboy class is where future professionals are made. These riders are hungry, skilled, and racing with everything they have.

COLLEGEBOY — Ages 19-29 You graduated from Schoolboy but you're not done racing. The Collegeboy class is for young adults who refused to hang up their gear. The passion is real and the competition runs deep.

250CC OPEN — All Ages Power meets precision. The 250 Open class attracts skilled riders who know how to work a track. If you're on a 250cc bike and you're ready to compete, this is your class.

450CC OPEN — All Ages The biggest bikes on the track. 450 Open riders come to win and they know it. This is the premier open class at 543 MX and the racing proves it every single moto.

250/450 BEGINNER — All Ages Stepping into competition on a full size bike for the first time? This class was built for you. New to the gate but not new to the grind. Every legend started somewhere.

250 C — All Ages Competitive riders on 250cc bikes who race hard and race clean. Every win in this class is earned the right way.

450 C — All Ages Serious competitors who show up prepared and leave everything on the track. The 450 C class is tough, fair, and exactly what motocross should be.

VET +30 — Ages 30+ Age is just a number. The Vet class brings together riders who have decades of experience, wisdom, and heart. Some of the best racing of the entire day happens right here. Don't let anyone tell you your racing days are over.

ONE FINAL THOUGHT.

Choosing the right class isn't just about following the rules. It's about respect. Respect for your fellow competitors. Respect for the families who showed up to give their riders a fair shot. Respect for the sport.

At 543 MX we protect that respect fiercely.

Every class is honest. Every win is earned. Every rider belongs.
